Hello All, This week was our last together, and I am so thankful for how hard the students worked, while working together and solving problems and challenges they faced. We finished our mythology unit with myth posters, and worked on our math skills through the math game prodigy every day. We have also been doing building challenges, lots of outdoor play, and other fun activities. I hope you all have an amazing summer, and thank you for being a great community for our students, and I hope everyone has a great next year in grade 6! -Mr. Junaid.

Hello All, This week, we have been wrapping up our studies, preparing to finish things off going into more of an activity week next week for the last week! In math, we have been playing the math game prodigy, which the students have been enjoying a lot this year, to practice their math skills in areas such as probability, multiplication, division and rounding. In social and science, we have been exploring games and articles from the website https://gradefive.mrpolsky.com/. This site is great to further engage students in multiple curricula. Lastly, in ELA we have been working on our myth writing, finishing our rough copies this week, with good copy posters due early next week. I hope you all have a great weekend!  -Mr. Junaid

Hello Everyone! This week we have been busy working on our math posters to show our knowledge of estimation. The students got to go on a "shopping spree" and find prices of items they would like to buy online, and then they calculated their totals, and did their calculations using the rounding strategies they have learned to see which one would be the most accurate. In science, we have been finishing our look back at wetlands, working on our projects looking at a wetland creature and their environment. In social studies, we have been continuing our journey into the exploration of Canada, specifically studying the creation and separation of Nunavut. Lastly, in ELA, we have been studying myths as part of our fiction unit, with the students working on sentence building and frames for myth writing, going into planning and writing their own myth next week. Have a great weekend everyone! -Mr. Junaid.

Hello All! This week, we have been wrapping up our story good copies, and will be moving onto mythology and other fiction topics in the next coming weeks before the year ends! We are far into our wetlands adventures in science, and the students have been doing well researching wetlands animals. In math, we are working on our estimation project, which is allowing the students to go on hypothetical shopping sprees, and then adding up their totals and using estimation strategies to calculate which will be the closest to the actual total. Lastly, in social studies, we are finishing our time capsule project, along with our social studies scripts, and are excited for our gallery walk coming soon! Have a great weekend everyone! Mr. Junaid.

Hello All! I hope you have had a great week. We have been busy starting to wrap up the year with finishing projects and new units. This week in ELA we have started working on typing our good copies for our story writing unit, with some fun mythology reading and writing after this to end the year. In science, we are coming back around to wetlands, where the students are researching different wetlands, animals and plants for preparation of a poster project highlighting one wetland animal of their choice with their ecosystem. In social, we have been splitting our time working on the history and impact of World War 1 and 2, as well as writing up our time capsule project for the gallery walk coming up for the school in mid June! Lastly, in math, we have ended our probability unit, and are now moving on to estimation, being a great applicable skills because people use it every day when buying things or budgeting. We will also be starting the teaching sexual health unit on Monday. If I have n

Hello All! I hope you have all had a great week,  even with the challenges with the smoke in the air. This week, we dived deep into probability, with double bar graphs, terms such as certain, likely, impossible, etc, as well as first hand and second hand data. We will be doing some more review, working on our anchor charts, then we will go into estimation the week after next. We got to grow our own crystals and make slime in classroom chemistry, the slime was led by one of our students, as seen in the picture below and it was a blast! In social studies, we have kept on with discovering the hardships of the history of Canada, finishing off with the famous 5 this week. Lastly, we have been working hard on our story writing rough drafts, with the hopes of peer editing at the end of next week or early into the week after that. I hope you all are staying safe, and have a great weekend!
